Full Moon in Capricorn

I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become.
— Carl Jung

The Moon appears full when it is illuminated by the Sun’s light. This happens when the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the sky, meaning they are in opposite signs. For example, the Cancer season Full Moon happens in the sign of Capricorn.

The Full Moon represents the climax of the Lunar Cycle. All the energy of the New Moon has been building up to this point. It is the time we feel most alive, high energy. There is a desire to connect, to gather, and to celebrate. Mirrored in the menstrual cycle by ovulation, it also represents the sigh of relief as all that built up energy is released. It is a time to let go, be free, and embrace the wild feminine.

Cancer season is focused on your home life while Capricorn is all about your career. This Full Moon is about creating that coveted work/life balance. Often, we get so caught up in creating our dream lives that we forget to slow down and actually be present for them! Our current culture celebrates living for the weekend, or work hard until you retire and then start to live your life. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather live my life while I’m still healthy enough to enjoy it. This balance looks different for everyone, but to find it you need to become aware of how you work best. Free up more time for the things that bring you joy by working smarter and avoiding burn out.

Capricorn is also a practical sign moving slow and steady towards a goal. It’s a great energy to capitalize on when it comes around. This month you committed to a daily self-care ritual, and Capricorn can help you see those small moments adding up to a large pay off in the long run. It is important to recognize how taking care of yourself trickles out to improve the other areas of your life.

Both Cancer and Capricorn are cardinal signs that are great for taking initiative. If you haven’t already, it’s time to de-clutter an area of your home. Often, we hold on to things that we don’t need out of fear that we might need it later. The truth is, we haven’t used it in months, or even years, and it’s really just taking up space. Removing the things we don’t need, allows more space for the things we want. Both physically and energetically. Yoga traditions teach the value of non-attachment. Now, I believe we are on the physical plane to experience physical pleasure, so I interpret the lesson as not using things for fulfillment. Remember that everything only has the value that we put upon it. Use tonight’s exercises to release attachment to the past and create space to bring in more joy.

On The Full Moon

The Full Moon ritual is similar to that of the New Moon. However, instead of setting intentions we focus our energy on the release. It is a perfect time to celebrate what we have achieved and let go of what has kept us stuck. I also suggest burning your lists in a fire safe manner. Fire helps transmute any negative energies and bring them back to neutral. It is especially powerful for letting go.

  • Set the space for inner work.

Suggested crystals: Moonstone and Smoky Quartz. Suggested oils: Sandalwood and Cedarwood

  • Full Moon meditation

  • Journal Questions

  • Releasing List

  • Gratitude list

  • Closing ritual:

Closing phrase: “Under the light of the Full Moon, I am cleansed. I know that I am blessed, and I live my life within that knowing.”

Burn your lists in a fire safe way.
