Career and Goal Setting

“To everyone else it looked like a single leap. But in reality it was hundreds of little baby steps.”

~ Rebecca Campbell

For the monthly New Moons I always recommend setting short term intentions so that you can work with that month’s energy and experience the shift right away. Capricorn in the one exception. The energy of Capricorn is sustained progress toward your goals. The Sun enters the new phase of its cycle when it reaches zero degrees Capricorn on the Winter Solstice, making it the perfect time to set intentions for the whole year!

Last month we focused on creating a big vision of the future. Now Capricorn comes along to help us put concrete plan into action. The final Earth sign is practical and all about the long haul. With a slow and steady pace, she learns from each obstacle that comes her way. Creating a plan and focusing on the systems and structures to get to where she wants to be.

Capricorn is also ambitious and calls to the part of us that seeks recognition in the world. It’s a good time to focus on your career, thinking about how the work you do contributes the world as a whole. Get clear on the kind of recognition you truly desire and then what steps you need to take toward it.

It’s no coincidence that New Year’s resolutions fall during Capricorn Season. In her book, The Desire Map, Danielle LaPorte teaches a new approach to goal setting that focuses on how you want to feel first and then create plans that will produce the desired feelings. We’ll talk more about this at the Full Moon in Cancer in two weeks’ time.

For tonight’s ritual we are using a T.I.M.E. Technique to put a goal into your future timeline one year from now. This will have a ripple effect from that moment all the way back to now, so your subconscious mind will help you take the steps you need to get there. For an extra challenge you can do this prosperity plan exercise. Once you’ve chosen your 1-year goal, work backwards and decide where you need to be in 6 months to be on track for reaching that goal. Then go back to 3 months and determine where you need to be to reach the 6-month marker. Then look at 1 month from now and decide what you need to accomplish this month to move you toward that 1-year goal and use that to set your intentions this month.
